Debbie Helferty, General Manager

Debbie Helferty, BA CHRP grew up in a military family and lived in many different locations in various provinces. She was born in Nova Scotia and spent most of her life moving to other parts of Canada plus spending 3 years stationed in England. Debbie has enjoyed various career paths including law clerk, human resources manager and consultant. However, Debbie found her true calling when she began working as the General Manager in a local retirement community. Debbie and her husband Pat live in Inverary, just north of Kingston with the family pets. They raised three wonderful children, Taylor, Kristen and Eric, who have all continued to post-secondary school. Debbie’s passions are her family and friends, gardening, reading and travelling. Please come visit Debbie in her new role as the General Manager at the Royale in Kingston. She is very excited to be a part of this wonderful company and truly beautiful home. The warm and welcoming residents have already made her feel right at home.

Sheena McDonald, Recreation Director

Sheena attended Queens University for a year of Sociology and Psychology. With a change of plans and interests Sheena attended St Lawrence College and graduated from the Social Service Worker program.

Sheena had the opportunity to gain work experience as an educational assistant for children with learning disabilities, and with the CNIB doing low vision assessments and orientation and mobility. She later became the Volunteer Coordinator at Trillium Centre and eventually worked as a Recreation Assistant at Trillium for three years before joining The Royale.

Holly Brooks, Community Relations Manager

Holly comes from a background in Communications and Literature. Her focus during her undergraduate degree at Queen’s University was to find work and volunteer opportunities that would give back to the community. During the past several years she has had to opportunity to work as a respite care volunteer in the Northumberland Community, a marketing coordinator for The Shelter Valley Folk Festival, and various other roles in community care and service. Holly feels that her most important role as a Community Relations Manager at The Royale is to support seniors find ‘the right fit’ when they choose their retirement home. She has helpful resources and an amazing knowledge of this field. Holly will take the time to discover your unique needs and aspirations. Kathy Pringle, Director of Wellness

Kathy graduated from St. Lawrence College in 1992 and began nursing at a local hospital where she stayed for 9 years before changing directions and moved into the Community Care Nursing Sector where she has worked as both a front line nurse and also in various management positions. Kathy grew up on Howe Island and currently lives in the Joyceville area with her Partner Jeff and her 2 boys Jordan and Owen. When not at one of her kids Soccer or football games Kathy enjoys spending time with her friends and family. Kathy is excited to start this new chapter of her career with the Royale and looks forward to helping our residents achieve all their Wellness needs.

Kevin Adams, Executive Chef

Kevin was the Executive Chef at the Grizzly Grill in Kingston for 10 years. Kevin’s background in the food industry resulted in cooking in some of the best hotels in Montreal & Vancouver. He has all the requirements to write the exams for a Certified Chef de Cuisine (CCC).

Kevin came to The Royalton with the hope of a better family life, his night hours kept him away when his 3 children and wife were home. He had plans for less work hours, but being the perfectionist he is Kevin is here more often then not.

Darren Moore, Environmental Services Manager

Darren brings over 15 years of experience in maintenance and general labour. He has owned his own property management company and worked for over 100 facilities through Lamb Property Management. Darren trained in high voltage safety, he is also highly skilled at plumbing, electrical, carpentry and a host of other areas needed to maintain a building.

In his spare time Darren is a volunteer trained responder for the town in which he resides, giving The Royale its very own in-house firefighter.
